Getting the show on the road

LIVE FIRE ROADSHOW

Click to enlarge » Tim Dennis is a local man, born and bred in South Molton, who has lived and worked in North Devon all his life. As past president of the South Molton Lions Club and still an active member after more than 25 years, Tim will be a familiar face to many people across North Devon and further afield.
However, more recently Tim has taken to the high road following the arrival of the company's show trailer. This is a custom-built vehicle which he tows to attend agricultural shows, open days and special events across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Avon and even parts of Wiltshire. Whilst the South West Woodburning Centre showroom is surprisingly large and displays more than 30 ranges and 130 stoves at its Winkeigh showroom, the trailer allows Tim to travel the length and breadth of South West England, demonstrating the onboard woodburning models, giving information and answering questions about all related stove and flue matters.
The trailer was delivered in October 2006 and since Tim has already clocked up a considerable number of miles, but this is nothing compared to the 5,000 or so that he expects to travel over the summer months, as for the first time, he takes the South West Woodburning trailer to a circuit of shows across the South West. Tim’s busy schedule kicks off again later this year, details to follow shortly.

COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS AND DISCOUNT DAYS

2nd & 3rd May 2008

If you love the good things in life, yet still require value for money, come to the South West Woodburning Centre at Winkleigh on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 May, when they will be hosting two ‘Demos and Discount Days’.

The ‘Demos’ will be a series of cookery demonstrations.  On Friday guests can sit back and watch the master in action, as David Pengelly cooks-up a variety of dishes from 10.00 - 3.30.  As one of Aga and Rayburn’s top chef demonstrators, David will enrich the morning by giving useful hints and answering questions from the audience as to how to get the best out of range cookers. On this occasion, David will be cooking on a wood-fired Rayburn and a gas Aga simultaneously and can give expert advice about using both.

To whet your appetite, David will be cooking a full Aga breakfast, Traditional French Quiche and Cornish Fruit and Apple Tray Bake, amongst many other delicious dishes.

On Saturday, Roger Jacobs will be on hand to talk about Esse’s range cookers and demonstrate the woodburning, oil and gas models.  Sue Hosegood will be rustling-up bacon butties and plenty of other culinary treats that visitors won’t be able to resist!

With the food theme featuring strongly, the South West Woodburning Centre will also be offering a mouth-watering 10% off all stoves and range cookers sold during the two ‘Demos and Discount Days’!

To top it all nicely, there will also be a free pack of Megatherm Fire Logs (long burning, CO2 neutral, composite logs made from 100% beech wood) and a bag of sustainable kiln-dried logs,(which give premium fuel efficiency via a clean burn and high heat output) to everyone buying an appliance over the two days.

With Special Offers on more than 40 cookers and stoves, the South West Woodburning Centre has to be the place to come when looking for a good deal!

The South West Woodburning Centre will host the event at their large, purpose built showroom, which is based approximately 1 mile outside Winkleigh, on the A3124 Torrington/Bideford road.

There are more than 160 appliances on view in the showroom, including 133 stoves and 28 cookers.  This gives customers every opportunity to see the actual item rather than choosing from a brochure or website.  Also many stoves and cookers are working models.

Company Director Andrew Baker says:

We invite everyone to join us on our Demos and Discounts weekend.  As the biggest heating and cooking showroom in the South West, we always have a good deal going on!

With cookery demonstration and fresh food to sample, coupled with brilliant special offers and a television and play area for the children, we feel that there will be something for everyone”.

Unusual Gifts

Different gift ideas available in our showroom...

The South West Woodburning Centre at Winkleigh may not be the most obvious place to shop for presents.  However, in addition to the many stoves and cookers on display in the showroom are a range of items which make ideal gifts.  These include lights, companion sets, carbon monoxide alarms, Aga kitchen ware and other items.

Here are a few of the more unusual items:-

EcoFan  £82.49

The Ecofan is designed to circulate the heat created by a wood or gas stove throughout a room, rather than most of it rising to the ceiling. These fans do not use batteries or mains electric, but work by convection.  They require no installation and cost nothing to run. The Ecofan starts automatically and adjusts it speed to the temperature of the stove.  It is a simple, ‘green’ way of optimising the heat from an existing stove.

Euroheat Wood Moisture Meter £39.99

To get the very best output when burning wood in a stove or cooker, it needs to be seasoned and dry.  This is to ensure that the hottest burning temperature can be achieved and for safety, minimum tar deposits build up in the chimney.

When buying wood in, it might be especially difficult to decide ‘how dry is dry?’.  But now a nifty little hand-held metre can tell you.  It has two metal probes which when applied to a log, give an instant reading.

Truelights from £14.99

These are a range of four, ultra bright torches (over 18000 mcd), featuring 3, 4, 6 or 8 LED bulbs.  They are a made from highly polished aircraft grade aluminium, which make them both durable and robust.  They come with a 10 year guarantee.

The Chimney Balloon from £18.99

This is a simple and effective way of blocking chimneys when not in use.  It stops draughts and £££s of wasted heat going up the chimney.  A room with a blocked chimney needs only about half the heat, so it makes sense to fit one to every chimney not in everyday use.  However, using a chimney balloon is completely safe, as if accidentally heated, it shrivels and deflates.

The Miner’s Lamps from £17.61

Handcrafted in the heart of the Welsh coal field by the sons and daughters of miners, these quality lamps come in a range of colours, finishes and sizes.  They are ideal for use in the home or garden, being decorative but also highly useful in a power cut!
